Astros outfielder, Josh Reddick, joined The Usual Suspects and talked about getting the “Woo” chants going in Houston, the team’s great start to the season, his decision to sign with Astros, and if he considers himself a veteran on this young team.
It seemed like the right time to come to Houston
Reddick said his decision to sign with the Astros was an easy one for him because the team was very aggressive in their efforts to sign him, and he knew that Houston was on the rise. After the Astros bottomed out, he watched them evolve into a perennial playoff contender. In fact, he’s very impressed with the amount of talent and depth on the ball club. It’s pretty rare to be able to give core players a day off, and the team doesn’t miss a beat.
Who is the MVP of the Astros this year?
Josh had some trouble answering this question because the team has several players having terrific seasons. When pressed, Reddick said it has to be either Springer, Altuve, or Correa. He’s envious of Altuve’s ability to pile up hits, and wishes he had a few more cheap ones fall his way.
The Astros are much better on the road
Reddick doesn’t have a reason for why the team has been so successful on the road, and he wonders if getting out of a dome gives the guys a spark. However, all the guys like having the roof closed at Minute Maid because the ball carries better.

Sonny Gray could help the Astros win a World Series
Finally, Reddick spoke about his former A’s teammate, Sonny Gray, and if he could be the missing piece for the Astros pitching rotation. Josh thinks it would be very scary for opposing hitters if Gray was in the three spot of the rotation behind Keuchel and McCullers. Joining a winning team might be the catalyst Sonny Gray needs to help him perform at the elite level he has shown in the past.
