Talk about one heck of a morning.
If you haven’t already heard the news, or maybe you live under a rock, the Houston Rockets have acquired Chris Paul from the Los Angeles Clippers. In the deal, Houston sent back guards Patrick Beverley and Lou Williams, forward Sam Dekker, and backup center Montrezl Harrell. Daryl Morey told you guys he had something up his sleeve, and he’s just getting started.
Joel Blank and Barry Laminack were on The Usual Suspects this afternoon reacting to the deal. Producer Nick was quite pleased, even though Chris Paul is already 32 years old. According to Barry, the Rockets essentially gave up role players to get a bonafide All-Star. He has concerns about Harden and the fact that his numbers might go down a bit, given the fact that Chris Paul also needs the ball in his hands to be effective.
According to additional reports, Houston isn’t done doing business. They are still aggressively pursuing top free agents, hoping to lure possibly Carmelo Anthony and Paul George, doing their best to form their own version of a Big 3. In order to compete with Golden State, Houston was alway going to have to up their profile.
