Game of Thrones Preview – Episode 6 – “Beyond The Wall”

Craig Koshkin

This is it folks. This is the episode we wait for every season of Game of Thrones. The next-to-last episode is always the most exciting. It always reveals the biggest plot twists, battles, and shocking moments. If a major character is going to die, now is the time. For the first time since season 5’s “Hardhome” we will get a taste of some human vs. white walker action. As we saw at the end of “Eastwatch” Jon, Tormund, The Hound, Gendry, and a few others have ventured beyond the wall in hopes of capturing a wight they can use to prove the existence of the army of the dead. To get a better idea of what may happen, let’s look at the upcoming scenes at the end of last week’s episode.

  • Jon and co. looking into the distance.
  • Daenerys worriedly looking out at Dragonstone.
  • A wall of wights approaching the group
  • Beric Dondarrion explaining why they fight.
  • Wineterfell
  • Lots of fighting
  • Arya approaches Sansa
  • Jon and Tormund running away
  • The Night’s King looking upon something

Let’s get into some predictions. Clearly we are about to see a really cool battle between Jon’s group and the wights. It will probably take up most of the episode’s 1 hour 20 minutes run time. But what will happen? How’s this for a totally out there theory? Jorah gives himself up to the wights so that he may be turned, captured, and used as the proof his Queen needs. He knows he’s no match for Jon Snow in this war of love. IN one final act of faithfulness, he allows himself to become the reason an armistice between Cersei and Daenerys can happen.

Prediction 2: Gendry is going ot be the 2nd best fighter in the group. Yes, that even means he is better than The Hound.  Gendry and his hammer will be every bit as fierce as his father was during his rebellion.

Prediction 3: Both Beric and Thoros are going to die. This will leave only one Red Priest/Witch that we know can revive people (Melissandre).  This also means the Brotherhood without Banners is finished. The Hound has a new sense of purpose and is still destined to be the one to kill his brother. He’s safe.

Prediction 3: Benjen Stark will be making a return appearance to help out the group. The writers made too big of a deal out of how he couldn’t go with Bran back to Winterfell and how he had to go out and continue his fight. Jon has always maintained that Benjen was still alive and the payoff will come in the for of Benjen coming to help out Jon in a time of great need.

What’s going on in Winterfell? Well Arya is going to confront Sansa. The question is whether she is doing it for appearances in front of Littlefinger or has Littlefinger’s trick worked? I am hopeful that Arya is bright enough to see through it all, but Littlefinger just doesn’t get figured out that easily. I think Arya is going to create this rift that Littlefinger wants. He is the smartest player in the game and despite Arya’s fighting prowess; she can’t see the forest through the trees.

The most interesting aspect of Arya’s small appearance is that she has a larger part to play in the audio that accompanies the scenes. You can hear her asking, “What are you afraid of?” when the wights are approaching Jon and his group as they are huddled up.

There is going to be a lot of action coming at you on Sunday night. Get ready for it because we only get one more of these penultimate episodes before the entire series is over. It is going to be a wild ride.
