Head coach of the Arizona Cardinals, Bruce Arians, joined The Usual Suspects and talked about coaching a young Peyton Manning, his outlook for the Cardinals this season, the release of his new book, and Deshaun Watson’s amazing leadership ability.
Coaching Peyton Manning during his rough years
One of the highlights of Arians’ career was coaching a young Peyton Manning trying to figure things out in the NFL. Arians was Peyton’s first QB coach, and he had some challenges coaching Manning in his early stages. He found coaching him difficult and enjoyable because Manning’s work ethic kept him very busy. Arians cautioned that not everyone can process the amount of information Peyton Manning can, and you have to let players play free. It’s important to treat each player differently and let them play to their strengths.
Deshaun Watson is a tremendous leader
Coach Arians also spoke about Deshaun Watson’s great leadership ability, and how he was fortunate enough to be in the stands for both National Championship games. He really likes Watson’s game and considers him to be a winner.
Coach Arians’ hat game is strong
Coach was always a hat guy growing up, and New Era was kind enough to make an officially licensed hat for him. All the proceeds from his licensed hat go to help with abused and neglected children. Because of this, he tries to wear the hat as often as possible.

Finally, Bruce told some stories from his new book, The Quarterback Whisperer. When he was in Pittsburgh, everyone would get together for a tailgate and have some beers and BBQ. The coaches, players, and all of their families enjoyed getting together and building team chemistry while having some fun in the stadium parking lot.
