The Texans were really excited about Nick Martin after he was drafted in the second round of the 2016 draft. He had a good camp and the Texans line looked improved, but things changed quickly after a joint practice between the Saints and Texans. Martin injured his ankle and had to miss the remainder of the season. Martin’s injury required surgery, and backup center Greg Mancz had to take over the position.

Mancz did an admirable job in Martin’s place, but a fully healthy Nick Martin could really improve the Texans running and passing game. He could be asked to play guard if the team doesn’t see significant improvement from right guard, Jeff Allen. The Texans really need some quality play on the inside of the line because the starting right tackle may still not be on the roster, and left tackle Duane Brown is holding out of OTAs for a new contract at the age of 31.
The Texans will be relying on their defense and their running game this year whether veteran Tom Savage, or rookie Deshaun Watson is starting at QB. Another player the Texans will be counting on is the Doak Walker award winner, D’Onta Foreman, who was drafted in the third round, and he will be counted on to help provide more power and speed to the RB position. Foreman piled up an astounding 2,028 rushing yards for the Longhorns last year, and he will definitely be a player that the Texans hope to lean on as the season progresses.
