Rockets looking to offer Harden another contract extension

Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle is reporting that the Rockets are looking to sign James Harden to another contract extension. This move, in theory, will make Houston look more attractive to free agents by having Harden locked up for the foreseeable future. James just signed an extension last year, but this new deal would be for 4-years and 168 million dollars. Harden flourished at point guard and the Rockets want to make sure that he continues his growth here in Houston with some additional pieces being added in free agency. The Rockets don’t have any draft picks in the first round, so free agency and trade are the only realistic ways to improve the team. Harden’s new deal will definitely make it a challenge to bring in another player with a large contract, because James is taking up so much of the salary cap. If this becomes an issue, the Rockets would have to look at other ways to trim salary.
