A report surfaced from NFL.com stating that the Texans have been “blown away” by the progress of rookie QB Deshaun Watson.  This led to a discussion on Undisputed about what the expectations are for Watson this year, and when he should take over as the starting QB for the Texans. Skip Bayless believes that Watson was the best player in the draft, and he could make the same type of impact that Dak Prescott did for the Cowboys last year. Watson’s ability to play at his best under pressure and beat Alabama in the National Championship game is something that Skip thinks will translate to the professional level. Bayless’ only concern is that Coach O’Brien may be a little too hard on Watson, because he was spoiled after working so many years with the great Tom Brady.

Fox college football analyst, Joel Klatt, says that Deshaun is going to win the starting job outright to start the season. Klatt doesn’t agree with Skip’s take on Coach Bill O’Brien. In his opinion, O’Brien’s coaching is big reason why he believes Watson will have early success in Houston. His only concern with Watson was the amount of interceptions he threw in college. Games are much closer in the NFL, and turnovers greatly influence who wins.

Hall of Fame TE, Shannon Sharpe, is confident that Watson is made of the “right stuff” and expects him to have great success at the next level. He thinks that O’Brien’s coaching of Watson will be an important factor, because screaming at QBs doesn’t typically produce good results. QBs have to have supreme confidence to perform at a high level, and O’Brien needs to make sure he doesn’t press too hard with Deshaun.
