Yesterday, footage of James Harden and Chris Paul playing in a pickup game showed that both players were sharing time playing point guard and distributing the ball. This led to a discussion on First Take about the likelihood of this dynamic working for the Rockets. Bomani Jones believes this experiment will take some time to unfold, and we may not know if the addition of Chris Paul is a success until after the season.
Paul has been the main ball distributor on every team he has ever played for, and Harden will have to adjust to playing increased minutes without the ball. In essence, Harden is more of a two guard, and CP3 is a true point guard, so this partnership should work for the Rockets if we’re talking purely from a strategic basketball perspective. What we won’t know, is how the two of them will interact with one another throughout the course of a season. We’ll have to wait until they play some games together before any real judgment can be made. The season can’t start soon enough for Rockets fans.
