Yesterday, Panthers coach Ron Rivera said that Cam Newton will not play in the preseason opener on Wednesday night. Newton is still dealing with some soreness in his throwing shoulder, and hasn’t thrown much since late July. Cam had surgery in March on his rotator cuff, and the Panthers will be careful with their franchise QB as he recovers from the injury. Newton is expected to be ready for the regular season, but QB Derek Anderson will start against the Texans tomorrow night.
One point on Cam Newton, who won’t play this week: He seems like he’s gotten over the hump. Newton is feeling better and should be back soon
