The Texans should go after Jeremy Maclin

Today on Unfiltered, John Granato and Sean Salisbury talked about a recent article that has the Texans finishing dead last in the AFC South. Granato is of the opinion that the Texans are more likely to win ten games than they are to bottom out in the division.  The article goes on to say that the Texans are going to struggle in the secondary, and the front office did nothing in free agency to improve the team.

Can the front-seven protect the secondary?

The Texans have one of the best pass rushes in the NFL, and their talent on the defensive line and at linebacker should hide some deficiencies at safety. Kareem Jackson played a decent amount of safety at the end of last season, but he has been playing mostly at corner during OTAs.

Sean’s biggest concern is at the QB position. Sean makes the point that Tom Savage has played less football than rookie QB Deshaun Watson, and that makes it hard to count on Savage for sixteen games. Injuries caused Savage to miss time in college and that pattern has continued in the NFL.

Rick Smith should make a play for Jeremy Maclin

The guys both agree that the Texans should purse Jeremy Maclin to be the number two receiver on the team. Maclin was just cut by the Chiefs for salary cap reasons, and they don’t have a lot of faith in Will Fuller at this stage in his career. Maclin just left Buffalo without signing a deal and will visit the Baltimore Ravens next.
