The Astros made a massive move and traded for Tigers’ ace, Justin Verlander, before the deadline last night. Verlander will receive $56 million dollars over the next two seasons, with the Tigers paying $16 million towards his contract. Verlander’s deal will extend to the 2020 season at $22 million if he finishes as a top-5 pitcher among AL Cy Young voting in 2019.
The Astros sent three prospects to the Tigers in the deal, including Franklin Perez, Daz Cameron, and Jake Rodgers. Perez is considered to be one of, if not the best pitching prospect in the Astros’ farm system. The Tigers will also be sending cash or a player to be named later.
